Decathlon – Graduate Retail Management Scheme

We recruit graduates with a good degree in any subject. We are looking for people with have an active interest in sport, and with evidence of leadership or management experience. They must also show commercial sense, natural customer service skills and an energetic and hands-on approach.

We recruit graduates into our stores as Trainee Department Managers.  From the first day they are responsible for the smooth running of one of the departments in store.  This involves managing and recruiting a team of sales assistants to keep high levels of merchandising, stock and sales in the department.

Trainee Department Managers follow a programme of 140 hours training over their first two years in the company.  Trainings begin with in store basics: security, merchandising, stock control, sales and products.  Once these points are mastered, the department manager can then move onto more advanced trainings: recruitment, management, finance, employment law and business plan.  Trainings take place in store, and at our head offices in London and Lille, France.  We place great importance on the development of our employees, and provide continuous training as their careers develop in the company.

Trainee Department Managers also have a regular ‘coaching’ meetings with the Store Manager to provide one-to-one training and help with their  progress and development.  These meetings take place every week in the first months in the job, and then on a monthly basis as the trainee gains more experience.

Once graduates succeed in their first job with us, there are many opportunities for further development, either in the UK or abroad, or in or out of store.
